I was just checking email on my Win 8.1 Pro machine and got a sudden black screen no BSOD. I know my MSI P35 board is a bit old but thought my Video card or monitor had gone. PSU is old but only a couple of years I think and it is a Corsair modular 500w. I know this is a one off but can anyone point me in the right direction of where to look for a possible fault. Switched off at power button when black screen appeared and it wouldn't boot then tried the reset button and the tower switched off for a second and then booted normally. Any ideas?
Hi Thanks for the reply I have a Dell monitor the system was built by Novatech. Looking at the action centre reliability graph there is a critical video hardware error so have cleaned up the MSI Video card and reseated. Looks like a new video card is on the books as it has just happened again unless it is a driver error!

Fixed the fan with some electrical spray cleaner, now sitting at 45c, think I prefer the passive cooling GT 610 I have ordered for future use and keep this as a spare.
