Does Automatic Maintenance really have to run daily?

Exactly what is so important in Automatic Maintenance that it has to automatically run it daily as opposed to weekly or monthly, or every 2 days etc.? I know that with my other laptop running Vista, Microsoft Security Essentials virus definition updates happen daily, but doesn't take more than a few minutes to update, and the virus scan itself doesn't take more than 10 to 15 minutes, and that it tells me to do a virus scan weekly as opposed to daily.

I set the automatic maintenance to run at 3AM, but by that time, my laptop is hibernating, so automatic maintenance runs when I don't use my laptop, but it is idle.

This begs the question, if I constantly use my laptop and hibernate it by the time the automatic maintenance is supposed to start, does it mean the automatic maintenance tasks are backed up so that it would take longer to complete?

One problem I find with automatic maintenance is that it runs when I don't touch my laptop. It doesn't matter if a CPU intensive program is running at the time or not. For example, I was running a trivia game, and I want to listen to the in game host say the questions and answers without me making any input towards the game, that is, I am purely listening to the game and looking at the basic graphics. Every time automatic maintenance starts to run, the game slows down and feels kind of choppy, and this is a game made in 2003 by the way.

I totally swear that every time I am not touching the laptop, no matter what program is running, and I could be overloading the CPU with tons of programs, and automatic maintenance would still run.

I am going to test the idle computer with FPS games made after 2003 to see if the game slows down because of the automatic maintenance.

Doing all of the automatic tasks it does can be 100% optional if you wish.

For example: even though it may perform all of this during idle times I like to research window updates before I update my system just in case an update gives me a problem. About the only thing I will let it do is scan for viruses while I am not on the computer.

How do I make automatic maintenance run weekly as opposed to daily? I let my computer sit idle, and automatic maintenance would constantly be running every time my i don't press any keys or move the mouse. It doesn't matter if I have a word processor open or a CPU intensive game running, automatic maintenance would run every time I don't touch my laptop, and it gets kind of annoying.

I also want to know what is so important with automatic maintenance that I have no choice but to automatically run it daily as opposed to automatically run it weekly?

I set it so that the computer has to be idle for 15 minutes before idle automatic maintenace is supposed to run. I run a game at 3:45PM and don't press any buttons afterwards. I see my HDD light blink at 3:50PM. That is totally not 15 minutes. I press buttons again to quit out of the game at around 3:57 or so and the HDD light stopped blinking, so I know it has something to do with automatic maintenance.

I also want to know in task scheduler, the difference between regular maintenance and idle maintenance. I only set the idle wait time to be 15 minutes in idle mainenace. On the regular maintenance, it is a scheduled task to run at 3AM every day, but under the conditions tab, I have "run this task if the computer is idle for 0 minutes" ticked. Should that be ticked off, or should I uncheck it?

Ok, this is annoying. In Task Scheduler, I specifically told idle maintenance to run when the laptop is idle for 15 minutes. I leave it idle at 4:07PM. Automatic Maintenance runs at 4:11PM.

I tried unchecking the "run this task while idle" under the conditions tab in the properties for Regular Maintenance in task scheduler, but that didn't change anything. Automatic maintenance always runs 4 minutes after the laptop starts being idle. Even before I made the changes, idle maintenance is set to start when the laptop is idle for 10 minutes.

I tried testing when automatic maintenance runs, and it still runs 4 minutes after the laptop is idle. I even unchecked "run task as soon as possible after scheduled task is missed" in the settings tab in the properties for regular maintenance.

No matter what I change in the task scheduler, automatic maintenance ALWAYS runs 4 minutes after my laptop is idle.

I checked the task scheduler, it seems idle maintenance is the one that keeps on running 4 minutes after my laptop is idle, when I specifically told it to run 15 minutes after my laptop is idle.
