Have noticed that my hard drive has 6 partitions

350mb healthy
300mb healthy
450mb healthy
15.51mb healthy
400mb healthy

I am following instructions to install ubuntu along side windows 8.1 the instructions say that you should only have upto 4 max partitions how can i delete these patitions down to as when you right click there is no way to delete.

Also which ones are safe to delete

I am using a acer laptop 2.4ghz 6gig ram 64bit

Would appreciate so advice on this matter regards newbie5

I think you seem to have misunderstood the instructions. The 4 partitions each drive limitation is only true for "primary" partitions. You can have an extended partition on which you can have a large number of logical partitions.

It would be helpful to know what type the partitions you already have are. To find out, just simply press the windows key, then type diskmgmt.msc, press enter, and in the following window you can read in the brackets at each partition what type they are (primary, logical).

If you could take a screenshot of this window it would help even further, but by the looks of it, you will need a partitioning software to free up enough space on your larger partition, to create a system partition for ubuntu to use.

Some of the hardware might seem odd (PSU, SSD), but I'm not wasting money on replacing perfectly functional hardware only because a newer version is out. Nor am I willing to pay extortion money for replacements or intended upgrades (GPU, RAM), especially if that "upgrade" has a hardware design flaw (CPU).
