Hello,

I am using Windows 8.1 with all the latest updates.

I'm trying to get into safe mode, but when I do it is only a black screen with in each corner it says "Safe Mode" and the whole screen blinks every few seconds resetting the cursors position. The cursor and text are only visible when I am moving the mouse, otherwise it's all black. I can't do any button combinations like CTRL ALT DEL or anything.

Normal mode works fine, and I can't think of any viruses/malware that work allow you to work in normal... but not safe mode.

I have all my W8 options disabled (Windows 8 mode, fast boot, secure boot) to see if it was those but to no avail.

Everytime I try, I have to go into safe mode. It sticks, so I can't just reboot/reset and go back into normal mode. I have to go into the emergency cmd and do bcdedit to delete the safeboot value.

I usually clean my PC every so often, the same with OS re-installation but nothing is wrong with the normal mode and the OS still seems quite fast with the SSD.

I have never seen safe mode function, this is the first attempt at running it in safe mode.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could cause this? I have seen a few threads on others experiencing it but most are Window 7 or older and they are all in normal mode and they can't get into safe mode to fix it... I can't get into safe mode but can get into normal mode...

Thanks

To be honest, I have never seen this.
The only thing that comes to mind is incorrect display/graphics drivers or the graphics card is crapping out. Check also the monitor driver.
It's unfortunate that you are unable to access Device Manager in safe mode, or are you, to see if any yellow exclamation point or red "X"

I can't see how any of that would matter since it works in normal mode. The driver is the latest Windows certified driver for my card. I shall re-install just to be certain.

The monitor doesn't use a driver, it all runs on the graphics driver which as stated above seems to be fine.

I can't access anything in Safe Mode, it isn't even functional. It's very similar to how a virus would be but I don't download trash nor has my AV/AM found anything and also why only safe mode?

Yes, I am aware however Windows 8.1 has drivers that function with my card. I know this because I uninstalled the graphics driver just now and it automatically installed another one when rebooted.

Please note when I say it blinks, I don't mean the monitor comes on and off in terms of power.. but all the content on the screen blinks and everytime it does so the cursor resets to the middle.

It says 'Safe Mode' in each corner and I cannot do anything.

I have already ran Malware Bytes, ESET NOD32 and Bitdefender. They found nothing, however, I shall do that again.
