Why is Windows Explorer not updating when I do things?

 Right now, if I rename a file in windows explorer, or right click->create new folder (or new file), or do a bunch of other things, I don't see the result of the action (i.e., the file's name stays the same, or the new folder/file doesn't appear) until I click away to another folder, and then back to the one I did the action in.


Why is this happening, and how can I fix it? I haven't explicitly changed anything recently, though maybe an update broke something.


I am using Windows 8.

Sounds like a problem that windows is not automatically refreshing.

Get a UAC prompt when you do this ?

Try SFC at admin command prompt type sfc /scannow

Let it run see if it finds anything and repairs it.

When I do that, it says:

The output in the file it speaks of is here (warning, it's 4MB):

In addition to what Adam's suggestion above. Before re-run sfc /scannow, delete everything under: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS
So you'll get a fresh copy of CBS.log, much snaller in size and up to date.
