    Desktop folder (under This PC) changed to D:\ drive?

    I don't know how this happened, but the Desktop folder under This PC changed to the D:\ drive. My system has two partitions, the second of which is the D:\ drive. The Desktop folder was not only renamed to "D:\" but redirected to the drive as well. I tried to delete it from the registry editor and then add it back, but the D:\ keeps coming back instead. The desktop icon is still there, however.

    Is there any way to delete the D:\ drive and bring back the desktop folder instead under This PC? Screenshot is attached.

    P.S. In the screenshot, the actual D:\ drive (supposed to be next to the C:\ drive) is not shown because I deleted the partition in hopes of getting rid of the D:\ drive folder showing up under This PC.

    When you right click the desktop folder and select properties, what location is shown there ?
    Needed to check into this before deleting anything.
    Check in Disk Management and post a screen capture here. I would not of done any registry editing.

    At least should check the path in location of properties to at least see what it says first.

    Folders under This PC cannot be renamed like that.

    To clear up any confusion from my initial post, I basically just want to switch the red circled icon from D:\ back to the desktop icon, which is what it originally was. The actual D:\ partition was deleted in hopes of getting rid of the messed up icon that's circled in red below. Didn't work...I'll use a partition manager to put back the partition later. This is a new machine, so I had nothing to lose by deleting it anyways.

    No, just right click on the folder->Properties then change the target to be: C\Users\[USERNAME]\Desktop
    Where [USERNAME] is your local username:

    Yup, that's what I was wondering too. While right clicking on properties SHOULD look like that, mine looks like this.

    Going to "Location" looks like this. Here it references the Desktop folder in the description of the tab, though the rest of the tabs are specific to the D:\ drive. So you can see what I mean when I say the Desktop folder changed into a folder that displays D:\.

    Using the location tab to change the path from D:\ to C:\Users\<my name>\Desktop brings up the error message below.

    You are correct. I removed those under This PC, they are actually virtual folders refered by their classID's in the registry (See next screen shot). So OP needs to change the location.

    The Desktop Icon under Favorites is in fact a shortcut.

    @OP
    Open the registry and compare the classID's from my screenshot with yours to see if they match.

    The class ID for the Desktop folder you have matches with mine. I checked that previously when I was checking the registry last night.
