I have Windows 8 installed now, and I want to dual boot it with Windows XP. How do I do that? Do I have to install it and then re-install 8? I tried it before, and it went straight into XP and when i used EasyBCD it just broke it. What should I do?

Ok. I guess I'll just try installing XP into the free space that i have on my hard drive again. But what do I do if it keeps booting straight into XP?

Using a virtual machine is a much easier way to access XP than a dual boot. While Windows 8 has a built-in virtual machine (if your computer is 64-bit with the right capabilities) I find that Oracle VirtualBox is a good choice that includes audio and there is no requirement for special keys to get mouse control back from the VM window. What was even better for me is that I had an installation on my dual boot of Win 7 so I only had to show the Win 8 VirtualBox where the disk was and presto my complete XP installation was running. I use it for running old versions of IE to check web page compatibility.

I worked my up from a virtual machine, to a slow 32-bit celeron and now two monitors on my XPS8100. Works great!
My example:

I was running windows 7 on C: drive on a 80GB hard drive.

Used partition wizard to create a new 25GB partition from the C: drive which when formatted was now E: drive and of course now my C:drive shrinks to 55GB.

Downloaded windows 8 CP and burnt to disc, insert disk and install to E:drive.

Restart computer, you will now get a boot screen every time asking if you want to run Windows 7 or Windows 8.

The time the boot screen stays up, which OS will load as default and a few other options can be adjusted in windows using some of the admin tools.
