Had to Uninstall Windows 8

I have been dual-booting Windows 8 CP with Windows 7 since CP came out. After installing and testing most of my programs I had to give up for now. Windows 8 started locking up and system would freeze. It was working great until last week, but then went South. I did some tests including SFC /SCANNON but everything looked OK. I was also getting a few errors in Event Viewer but nothing serious and these have been going on since initial install. So I decided to kill CP and may just wait until the next version comes out (RC in May?). I used this Tutorial http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2372-dual-boot-windows-7-windows-8-delete-windows-8-a.html which was so easy it won't be a problem to reinstall Windows 8 again and give it another try. I really liked Windows 8 and looking forward for newer release.

Total bummer about having to uninstall. I'm glad to hear that it was really easy for you though. Will you continue to hang out on the forum, or go back to 7er pastures? ;)

Try Windows 8 in VirtualBox. Works pretty good.

I'm not going anywhere. I will stay active on here as well as sevenforums. Just taking a break from running Windows 8 until the next release.

My freeze checklist, in no particular order:

1) Bios should be latest offered. Set Optimized Defaults in it then save.

2) All drivers for all devices should be updated to latest from manufacturers' websites.

3) All 3rd party security software should be removed in safe mode with the specific removal tool. (Disabling does nothing here. Drivers are still loaded with system, and is of no help to troubleshooting.)

4) Uninstall all tweaking/overclocking type of software.

5) HDD/SSD should be checked for errors. Event Viewer is good for this. chkdsk /r X: command is also good to run, where X = the drive/partition letter.

6) Make sure system files have integrity - sfc /scannow command

7) If still suffering issues, use the Windows 8 Task Manager to disable everything starting with Windows.

8) If you have mapped network drives, uninstall them as a testing procedure.

9) Scan for malware with Malwarebytes after updating definitions to latest.

10) Run a Windows Update and install any critical patches.

I am using the CP since it's release and I have to say that never had a problem, crash, BSOD, nothing at all. Now I'm using it as my main OS.

I had one problem after my initial install. What I found was that I installed wrong. Dumb me Updated DP to CP against my own advice. I have been telling people forever in other forums that the Custom (Clean) install is the much better way to go. It gives a much more pristine installation. Then I went and made a mistake. Had problems the first couple of days. Downloaded again, burned the DVD again and did a Custom (Clean) install. Not a problem since. I spend 100 % of my time in Win 8 CP and 99 % of that time on the Desktop UI.
