    Browser cause non page-pool leak

Like the tittle states is it possible for a browser or browser extension to cause memory leak in the non page-pool.

A couple of of day ago I switch over to Opera and had memory leak in the non page-pool that paralyzed the machine till I rebooted.

Asking cause a few days prior I was messing around with a few of my drivers and I have a new motherboard coming and was thinking of just popping the hard drive on without doing a fresh install of windows, since I have an upgrade version of Windows 8.

What are you using to show that there is a non-page pool leak? Is this showing in events under administrator tools? Really need more information.

Since it is Opera, I would check their forum out, to see if others are also having this same issue. Opera Forums

Applications can't normally allocate from the paged or non-paged pools themselves. They are used by device drivers and by system functions when performing services for applications. It would be possible for an application to cause such a memory leak but I would consider it unlikely. But we really need more information. A screenshot of Task Manager - Performance tab would help.

Sorry I am not very computer savvy so please bear with me (didn't even know about memory leaks till a few days ago)

Yeah the problem just started after installing Opera and two extension (AdBlock + Custom New Tab) Now I didn't find anything on the Opera forum but Google brought up links to problems with AdBlock and memory leaks on a previous versions (does not say if it was in the non page-pool or not) Another problem I noticed in the short time I used Opera was that it caused constant CPU spikes, 20-30% at system idle. Opening the browser would drive CPU usage 60-80% for a sec.

I first used Task Manger then RamMap after reading a couple of post on the this forum. The leak happen 3 times and it was not till the 3rd time I noticed it was from the non page-pool. I didn't take any screen shots cause I didn't know what I was doing, still don't.................. just kinda back tracked from the last few days, uninstalled, updated and deleted unused drivers.

I switched back to Firefox and all is running well for the last 2 days, will take screen shots if it happens again. The main concern is that I will be upgrading my motherboard in the next week or so. It is from a Win 8 upgrade, so I was hoping not have to do a fresh install of Windows. If I just switch everything over to my new motherboard will windows reinstall all new drivers and fix the problem.

A little more info, I have check for viruses and did windows ram test and both came back good

    Thanks

Opera & FireFox have been known to have memory leak issues, along with Internet Explorer. As for Adblock plus. I have not heard of any issues with it causing memory leaks. You would need to use something like Process Explorer, to find out which sub process is causing the memory leak.

Also Javascript can cause memory leaks, along with Flash.

Thanks for the info........ Haven't had a non page-pool leak in the last 3 days but really didn't know what my normal ram usage was before this. With 16gb installed I'm idling at 15% with Utorrent open.

I had also Dl Process Explorer when I pick up RamMap and will be sure to use if the problem arises again.

    Thanks again
