F4 doing whatever it pleases

Ah, F4.

I really disliked the fact that a slip of the hand that results in me pressing F4 means closing a window, so I went to BIOS mode and added the prefix of 'Fn +.' So I pressed F4 to try it out and it performed the exact same function.
So naturally I tried pressing Fn + F4 and it did the same thing. I'm pretty irked that F4 = Fn + F4.

So the question of the day is: how do I prevent F4 from closing my window? I don't want to disable it completely because I want to attach another hotkey to it (ex: F4 = go back one song for a music player.) If I wanted to do that, I would've used Sharpkeys.

Please keep in mind that I'm what I believe is referred to as 'n00b' in programming.

What PC do you have? Perhaps you could fill in your specs. I have Fn + F4 decreasing volume and F4 doing whatever it normally does. It really depends on your keyboard drivers.

It's a Windows 8.1 x64 Lenovo Labtop.

What model? On my Lenovo X201 F4 is supposed to sleep - yours may be different.

On most laptops the F keys usually do double duty as the custom functions for volume up down, screen brightness up down etc. On my ASUS laptop I have to press the Function key and the F key to make it work. Just pressing an F key without holding down the Function key does their normal function. F1 for Help for example. On some laptops you can toggle it the other way around by changing a BIOS setting. Set that way, just pressing the F key will adjust the volume etc without having to hold down the Function key at the same time. If your keys seem backwards check your BIOS for that setting to toggle them.

G700 for the Lenovo model, sorry that I didn't include it in the preceding post.

So what's this "BIOS Mode" you mentioned? Command Prompt maybe?

F4 does not normally close windows, ALT-F4 does. Are you sure your ALT key isn't sticking?

I would be surprised if the default Application function keys was also F4 to close... On my keyboard it's F6, and I have to have the function lock off for that to happen.

It's the one where you access it during start up.

Nope, not sticking at all. Frankly, I'm bewildered about this phenomenon too.
