Solved Desperate help needed - recovering missing files

Alright, so I was copying some photos from my iPhone to my laptop. I'd created a new folder on my desktop and used the cut and paste function and was done with possibly thousands of photos when I decided to make a separate folder for the videos so I hit Ctrl + z to undo the videos I'd already cut and pasted. Instead of putting the videos back in the iPhone, it undid the creation of the desktop folder. Now all the photos that were previously in there are missing. A search doesn't turn them up, they're not in the Recycle Bin and refreshing the iPhone photos folder in Windows Explorer isn't doing anything. I tried to hit Ctrl + z again but all that's done is bring back an empty 'New Folder'. Can somebody please help? I'm practically foaming at the mouth now.

Try an undelete program such as Recuva. Don't create files or run other programs to avoid overwriting the deleted files on the disk.

Explorer isn't so great with thousands of files. Better to use a 3rd party file manager. There are many good ones both free and paid out there.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have worked. Were the files actually deleted when the file was un-created? Or are they still on the drive somewhere? I only ever cut and pasted, never deleted anything.

Ok, I've tried using Recuva both normally and with Deep Scan but I'm still not turning anything up. Is there something else I could do? I just don't understand it.

You must scan the entire drive

OMG It worked! I went to This PC, right-clicked the C Drive and scanned for deleted files. I then specified only image files and sorted by name then - there they were! Thank you guys so so much, it's great being able to recover a whole year's worth of memories. :'D

Your welcome, glad you got your memories back. Advice: back them up to an external device.

Glad you got your stuff back. Now that you have it, please mark the thread as "Solved". I had to read all the way down, just to find you've been given the help you needed and the problem's solved. Of course, this thread isn't a long one. :)

Had I not read to the bottom, I may have attempted to help you. :) I would have suggested Paragon's free software, which can be found here: Free license software - free backup, partition freeware & data recovery It's never a bad thing to have two or three helpful apps for troubles like this.

I believe it was the Paragon app that recovered a whole external drive that went bonkers. So, as I said, more than one helpful thing in your arsenal is good.
