Pinning a document to the Start Page

I just spent 5 minutes seeing if I could pin a document to the Start Page and I think the answer is "no".

I want a quick way to open an Excel document straight from the Start Page. Anyone know how to create a tile for a document?

You can only pin Apps to Start Screen.
If you want to open the Excel document quickly, simply put the document in taskbar.

This is my second laptop after my old notebook that broke because file system is corrupted and I can't recover it. And my Internet speed is super duper low in other countries. And my income is so low (US$200/month) so I don't have any electronic equipment except this laptop.
You can pin a shortcut to an application that will also automatically open document. For example:

Your document is called mydoc.txt

1. Create a shortcut to notepad.exe on the desktop
2. Select Properties and modify the shortcut 'Target'
3. Enter C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe {path to mydoc.txt}\mydoc.txt
4. Rename the shortcut to mydoc
5. Pin mydoc to the start page.

Keep the path to the documents short ad avoid spaces in the path.

Good idea Calico, I will try that, but it would be good if MS make it easier to add document tiles/shortcuts to the Start Page

Yeah, I have my hosts file shortcut pinned to Start as Calico describes -

Target: %windir%\system32\notepad.exe "%SystemRoot%\system32\DRIVERS\etc\hosts"

Start In: %windir%
