I like setting my max and min pagefile size to be the same so Windows never changes the size for any reason at all. I set it to 2048 MB for both, while having 2 GB DDR ram. I don't have any SSDs. Seems to work well for me.

Metro - Underground. You have to go up and down quite a lot of stairs, and along a few corridors, in some of the London underground stations, to get the right result!

LOL - nice comparison Dave - I use the tube a lot - lots of unnecessary steps, corridors, etc

You worry too much. Even with this kind of write activity, the lifespan will be over 10 years. My oldest (4 year old) SSD will still be good until 2021 ( as per the Drive Health Program).

I discussed the idea that buying an SSD and installing your old Win 7 on it, instead of installing Win 8 on your old computer, is a good idea, with two geeks yesterday. Like me, they are fascinated by the concept. Obviously, doing both is better yet, and if I had the money, I would take that route.

Vince, install Win7 on the SSD and run Win8 in Virtual Box. My Win8 boots in 8 seconds from vBox and runs just as fast as the Win7 host. And you have the advantage that you can operate both systems simultaneously. No switching or anything required, it is seamless.

Good idea. But I'd still have to pay for both fi I did that.

But at least until Jan. 2013 you have Win8 for free. Later you will have to find a sponsor. LOL

No way would I still want to agonize with spinning disks. I put SSDs on all my systems - the first one 4 years ago. But now they are dead cheap and there is no excuse.

Just today I installed a 120GB M4 on a laptop of a friend. What a difference once I swapped the disks. He was tickled pink.
