Hello,

I seem to have a problem with the file explorer as the title says when I am switching between folder and I click on This PC I get "this folder is empty" sometimes it gets back to normal for a couple of minutes but then it starts again
I tried booting into safe mode everything was fine, I tried clean boot but it was the same as it is now
Ran Virus scan came out clean, and I can't even seem to be able to do a repair install the Windows 8.1 setup starts
And after "Preparing 100%" it just fades away. when I check in Task Manager "Windows Module Installer" shows disk Activity, also when I adjust the performance to best appearance it changes back to best performance after reboot.

That is kind of strange...

There must be something wrong in your registry it's the only thing I can think of and I'm not familiar enough with the registry to give detailed advice on what could be causing it in i that or how to fix such a thing. I do know though that you shouldn't use things such as Ccleaner too often if you have a program like that or that actual program. There is nothing wrong with registry cleaners however they can also be harmful if it deletes something it shouldn't and I kind of get the feeling this is what is going on here.

All I can really tell from this is that something has gone corrupt, either a system file or something in your registry.

What did the scannow results come up with?

Running it for the 4th time, Appearance settings issue was fixed but the explorer issue still stands, I remember there was an update for windows 8.1 that had something to do with file explorer performance I will check that

Are your B & E drives external USB

I occasionally get similar if my external drives have gone into sleep model

Not sure if this makes any difference, but have you tried giving the b: drive a higher up letter, B used to be reserved for floppy disks so not sure if there is something in windows getting confused with this

as a full time user of ccleaner ,and firm believer its one of the best out there ,I use to regularly to help in the cleanup of my computers and my regular customers ,
If it were my computer or your computer in my hands I would run Ccleaner registry cleaner right now as it may have a fix for your issue ,I have used Ccleaner on maybe 100 computer and have never had it cause further problems to any of them

was worth a try .
give DISM a go, and yes I may be grasping at straws ,but its how I fix my issues
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a.html
DISM gets up to 40% then after a while it ends with "could not download source"

Just from quickly browsing the corruption list you have a couple of window updates and defender updates that messed up. Has your computer ever gone out while installing window updates?

I can't remember but I think it did I even forced shutdown because it was stuck on some update preparing although the update was surely corrupt because it downloaded in few minutes! I don't have internet that fast (it's Windows 8.1 Update 1) and there is a Office 2013 service pack these 2 refuse to install even when I downloaded from Microsoft's page...

aha! so now we getting to the root I believe :)

When these updates were originally done they probably deleted/was replacing certain items.

Let's try to first fix any on the disk that's possible follow these steps

Check a drive for errors

If any of these files are window files there is a chance Windows can fix them from this.

What you may need to end up doing is reinstalling windows sadly. I hate telling people this. You can attempt to uninstall or delete the corrupted update packages if you wish but it may be more time consuming than you actually wish to use. If you have any knowledge of which updates you was doing when this occurred it may assist you in redownloading them manually as well.

After thinking about what I said I wanted to reword something so it sounded better....

Generally corrupt files can't be "fixed" they are either deleted and hopefully replaced. In your case it looks like they need to be replaced I would take a guess at.

I would also check this out was this one of the updates you was doing?

What is the Browser Choice update? - Microsoft Windows

I'm not sure of a direct link but it's something to try. It said you had a catalog corruption from that cbs log for that update.

Something called a browser choice. I think it has something to do with out of the USA updates so I am unsure of what it exactly does. I would try to to download it if I was you and see if it replaces the bad files.

No I don't remember seeing something like that, as I said my PC turned off at the Update 1 while it was at 30%.

But right now Update 1 was installed! after I gave up a month ago after trying hundreds of times trying to install it
Now my problem is solved! it was nothing but pure luck!.

Thank you everyone who tried to help I really appreciate it!.
