    Format Seagate external drive

I purchased a Seagate 1Tb external drive that came with "Seagate Dashboard" software to manage back-ups. What I would like to do is create 2 500Gb partitions and use my Acronis software to make mirror images of both my desktop and laptop. Is this do-able? Would it be advisable to delete the "Seagate Dashboard"?

    Thanks for any advice.

Simply just plug it in and do a format. It took you longer to ask how to do this, than it would to have just plugged the drive in and right click on it after it loads in Windows Explorer, and choose "Format".

not need to delete Seagate Dashboard, but no need to keep it if you not gonna use it .you could use windows disk-manager [lower left of you desktop screen right click the windows icon and choose disk manager ]right click on the 1tb choose shrink volume , shrink it to 500gig ,it will then show 2- 500gig partitions ,click the 2nd one and set it up and format it ,its that simple for me anyway .

That takes longer, than just open up My Computer, right click on the removable device (Seagate USB driver), choose Format and left click on format, then click okay.

ok, you want to fill user in on how to create the 2 partitions when they hit format ,just in case they don't know ,assuming they don't or they wouldn't be in here looking

Launch Acronis, choose drive, then choose "Split Volume". Acronis will actually walk them through the procedure, after they get the first part out of the way.
