very slow start up on windows 8.1 with SSD

Hi, i have a hp pavillion desktop pc which came with windows 7 installed,
I later updated to windows 8 and at the same time has a SSD fitted , everything worked perfect for about 7 months then one day it just started to take about 10 mins to boot up ,The screen stayed black then it would start as normal , but if i shut down for 30 minutes or so or reset the computer it would start normal no black screen.
i have done a clean reboot , unplugged all external USB devices and the 2nd internal HDD but the problem is still there, i noticed the SSD had 5 partions which i had not made and i am pretty sure they where not there before but i cant be 100%
Sometimes the computer will start and some text will come up saying - Scanning and repairing drive (\\?\Volume(14e1d751-2465-4769-9394-09ed6cc6aaf9}): 100% c

but only now and then

my specs are
windows 8.1
build 6.3.96000
hewlett-packard
h8-1375ea
x64-based pc
intel core i7-3770 @ 3.40GHz,3401 Mhz, 4 Core ,

im not very technical but any help would be great
thank you

It takes time for the OS to tweak the OS. Without a way of timing between the old drive and new drive. Your mind is assuming that the old drive is faster, new drive is slower. It could take 10 to 15 boot ups, to get the OS back up to speed. Also keep in mind that whatever start up programs you have. That will slow down the OS from being able to let you log in.

Dave001 - I doubt that the partitioning of your drive is the issue causing your system to take a long time to boot. In order to join the unallocated portion with the C: drive you would need to use a utility that will allow you to move those partitions around so that the unallocated space is adjacent to the C: partition. IMO, 301MB of disk space isn't really worth the effort but you may feel differently. Here's a link to a free utility that could help you with that: Windows 8 Disk Management ? Resize Windows 8 Hard Drive Partition Easily and Safely

I would check on the ssd mfr website for any diagnostic software they may offer to use to test the ssd to ensure that is not the problem. You may also want to do a system refresh to ensure the system files aren't corrupted.

It does not look right. The 301MB partition should be the Recovery Partition, why is it unallocated ???

EDIT: Please open the Admin command prompt and run: bcdedit /enum /all
then copy and post.

What SSD brand and model? Check the S.M.A.R.T. info for the SSD and see if there are any reallocated sectors and check the CRC Error Count. I had a bad SATA 3 cable once and the CRC Errors piled up, this caused the drive to slow down to deal with the data errors.

If you still have a platter drive in there. That could be the root cause.

The above section of the output from bcdedit is in your BCD (Boot Configuration Data) and is setup to point to the Recovery Partition and since the Recovery Partition is unallocated and missing. It might have something to do with the delay during boot.

Your HD might have some bad sectors and could also be the cause for the delay during boot.
You can download:CrystalDiskInfo5_6_2Shizuku.zip and run it. Look at the info of the WD HD to see if you have any bad sector (indicated by yellow exclamation mark). If so, from the Admin command prompt,
run: chkdsk C: /r /f <====this will take a while to run depending on how bad the HD is, several hours is normal so please be patient.

I have a 238GB SAMSUNG SSD 830 Series,
i took the power from the HDD and the computer still didnt load for 8 minutes so can i rule out the 2nd internal drive as the problem?

i have just noticed that just before the computer starts up there is a little click a spinning noise , i have a SSD ? Could it be the HDD inside my computer that is causing this 7 min boot time even though the OS is on the SSD?
i have a WD internal drive which i use for files , photos mp3 ETC but i wiped all data and the drive is now empty
If you still have a platter drive in there. That could be the root cause.

Download Speccy from Speccy - System Information - Free Download After you run it, you will be given a URL (Web address). Post that URL to a post in this thread, so we can see the results from it.

Hi broe23 can you have a quick look at my specs please thank you

The above section of the output from bcdedit is in your BCD (Boot Configuration Data) and is setup to point to the Recovery Partition and since the Recovery Partition is unallocated and missing. It might have something to do with the delay during boot.

Your HD might have some bad sectors and could also be the cause for the delay during boot.
You can download:CrystalDiskInfo5_6_2Shizuku.zip and run it. Look at the info of the WD HD to see if you have any bad sector (indicated by yellow exclamation mark). If so, from the Admin command prompt,
run: chkdsk C: /r /f <====this will take a while to run depending on how bad the HD is, several hours is normal so please be patient.

i ran the test and all sectors are good , is there any way i can remove the Recovery Partition that is unallocated and missing or change it? i have done a clean reboot and this problem was before and after
