If Mint developers can do it why not Microsoft?

If you press the Windows key or the infinity icon you can reach an application page that look like the Metro Start Page, but contrary to MS you can even open the Menu. And look at left no need to fight with the mouse to open the menu, it's already open





You can even see your application running from the desktop.




So why Microsoft it's so hard for you to put an icon to switch betwen the start page and the desktop ? Why we have to use the corner of the screen to do this ?

It's really not that difficult to switch between Start and Desktop. It's a key or a click away.

Well theoretically, it's fairly simple to see what you have going on the Desktop, it's a click away. I wouldn't see the need to have a menu list of what I have open if I can exit the Start Screen simply.

Even then, setting that aside, Microsoft took a different approach to the Start Screen versus mint's. I guess that's probably why they designed the Start Screen as such because someone else had that concept of blacking out the Desktop a bit and overlaying icons on it. It's really just a choice in design to me.

Gotta admit it, I was very happy to learn that they were going to build the Hildon desktop into Gnome3. Gnome has become a very pretty desktop now and do agree that MS and other OS companies should start paying more attention it.
