Hi,

About two days ago I reformatted my SSD and installed Windows 8.1 Enterprise. As of last night, I noticed this strange bug in the metro interface on the logon screen, the Start Menu for Metro, and Metro Search.

The buttons in the places I highlighted in red are replaced by the missing character or symbol box. I tried googling a fix but no results came up. Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Should be a pictogram of magnifying glass instead of the square you have now.

Welcome to Windows Eight Forums, Vexorify.

Did this happen right off the bat after install? If so, it may be that some items didn't install correctly. If it broke afterwards it may be along alphanumeric's suggestions.

Either way, you may want to perform these:

Run SFC /SCANNOW: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/3047-sfc-scannow-command-run-windows-8-a.html?filter[1]=Performance

If scannow warns that it cannot fix some items, then the store may be corrupt. Run DISM to fix that and run scannow again.

DISM to Fix Component Store Corruption: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a.html

Of course that won't fix a custom theme if you installed one.

Thank you for the help. I realized that the Segoe UI Symbol font was replaced by an older version when I copied over my fonts which screwed it up. I just reinstalled the Windows 8.1 version of it and that fixed the problem.
