Solved Action Center - Problem Reporting is Turned off

Hello all,

So, first off, I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro, just so you know. Now, I run a routine maintenance on my laptop each week and part of that routine consists of using the "Check for Solutions" function in the Action Center. I've done this every single week I've owned my laptop, without fail. However, when I tried to do it this week, a pop-up bubble opened and said "Problem Reporting is Turned Off," so, when I followed the prompt to change this in the problem reporting settings tab, everything was grayed out and it said "Some Settings are Controlled by Group Policy." This makes absolutely no sense, for multiple reasons. First off, this is a home laptop that is in no way whatsoever connected to a work place. Second, as I mentioned before, I've done this same routine every single week and have never had this issue. I didn't install anything different this week. I've dug through all of my files to see if there was anything suspicious and found nothing. I have multiple security programs running to ensure the safety of my laptop (yes, they're compatible with each other). The only thing that's different about my laptop since the last time I ran "Check for Solutions" is the update Microsoft put out this past week for Windows 8.1. I don't think that's the problem though. I just don't understand why suddenly my laptop is under "group policy," and I can't figure out how to fix it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Just ignore it. All it does it tell Microsoft that something crashed. They never really respond to the reports, unless they get a large volume of them.

Wow thanks Shawn! I'm now able to Check for Solutions again! It's very bothersome to me why this changed in the first place though. Do you know why all of a sudden my laptop would be under group policy and would make that sort of change on it's own?

You're most welcome.

Other than you or another administrator setting the group policy by mistake, a 3rd party utility program (if installed) or possibly malware may have set it.

It wouldn't hurt to do a full scan with an AV program like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free just to be safe though.

GPO can affect it. I really did not worry about it. Due to more of a nuisance than anything. Usually it gets disabled, when you are setting up an account. If you go to the User Options in the Metro Screen. You should be able to make those changes there.

Shawn,

I am the only user on the laptop, so it wouldn't be another user. My laptop is under a strict and scheduled maintenance program that I run each and every week (one of the programs is in fact Malwarebytes), so I'm sure it isn't malware, and as far as a 3rd party application doing it I tried a fresh boot with no 3rd party applications running and it still said the same thing. I even tried creating a new local user and had the same thing. The weirdest part of this whole thing is that when I go into the MMC and add the group policy plug in it says none of the users are under group policy objects. I'll post a screenshot.

As long as it doesn't happen again, you should be fine. Otherwise, I'd be concerned about what may be changing it.

Well I am a bit concerned already, but I suppose I can let it go seeing as how your solution did enable it, so clearly I'm not locked into a policy that I can't change things on, if I am even locked into a policy at all. I found something else that may be of interest to you. When I checked the system specs and went to domain and workgroup settings and clicked on Network ID the "This computer is part of a business network" option was checked, which it definitely isn't, so I changed it to "This is a home computer" and rebooted. Upon rebooting it had reverted to the first option. What do you think about this?

Not sure, but that certainly looks like the culprit.
