Need to delete content in unreachable folder

Hi,

I was trying to recover some lost files with recovery software, I came across something unpleasant - my partitions contain 'Found' folder that contains 'Found.NNNN' N for numbers, folders that contain files previously deleted with their filenames also remaining. I want these files cleared, the thing is, unlike $RECYCLE.BIN that can be accessed if you unhide system folders and such, these folders do not exist and yet recovery software finds them.

Can you tell me what application can erase these folders and files so that they do not appear under the recovery software? Eraser does not detect the folder as existent. It is something like ROOT\Folder\ but I don't know which erasing program can find and delete the whole folder.

These things are usually made by CHKDSK.

If you have a lot of them, I'd suspect a failing hard drive.

No it's not the Found.000 folder with chk files. It is a main Found folder with subfolders, I think deleted files go there, my question though is how to delete those files. Unlike Found.000 folder that is simply hidden, this is not found in just viewing your folders, only recover program finds them, I want to erase them too.

Try running free space Drive Wiper in CCleaner (or some other free space wiper, many available), then try the recovery software again and see if it still finds anything. ps: be sure there are no previously deleted files you actually want to recover!

Looks like you need to use some secure delete software, instead of using the recycle bin \ empty (which does not delete any file, only deletes the information about the file's location on disk).

If only the recovery software sees the folders then maybe they are already deleted?

When you delete a file the OS just removes the links to the file's sectors. The recovery software can restore those links and reconstruct the file. If you leave them eventually the OS will reuse the space for other files and they will be truly gone.

I agree with mikeytg, you are worrying about files that are gone ,the space is free now and windows widows will use it when it needs it

The point is I wanna delete freaking file names containing personal data in the name, I will sell the HDD. ... those are the deleted deep in unreachable folder 'Found'..

Recuva finds them in an unknown folder like e:\?\ and there I see deleted files, cannot securely overwrite cause they are in MFT. I need them permanently gone and not ever found under these names when the recovery tool is used. I need to make the name disappear, the data doesn't matter caused it can't be used.

Perhaps Knoppix on usb, shred hdd?

I don't know what made that folder, but you could rather easily make it go away, since you want to sell the HD.

I would use the YUMI tool to make a USB drive that will boot your favorite flavor of Linux.

Then boot from that USB drive and open the Linux folders on that old drive and delete whatever you like.

YUMI is at 'pendrivelinux.com'. There are also other alternatives but that's what I use.

You could also try changing the permissions on the System Volume Information folder, etc. But it's easy under Linux.

Thanks, programs are all the same, hundreds of GB by 25 passes will be slow, Knoppix does the same with the -shred command, and is reliable maybe, last I used it. I will try with it if not, will try yours..

How long will it take for 25 passes of seven hundred gig?
