Can't boot into Safe Mode with Networking

Win 8.1 Pro x64. Got to the safe mode screen with the nine choices for start up method. 5 or F5 is supposed to restart with networking, but the connection isn't happening. Attempts to make it bring message that I have to start Windows normally. What am I missing? Thanks

With no answer here after most of 24 hours, I posted on the other Win 8 forum and got a quick answer:

Go to Start screen > search box > type msconfig > click msconfig.exe > click Boot tab at top > check Safe boot > click Network > OK when done > reboot. Reverse process within safe mode when done to return to normal mode.

Sorry about not rersponding. I remember reading your post earlier today and thought I had responded.

Glad you got it fixed though.

You can also enable the old F8 brings up the Advanced Boot Options menu if you want, read here:

Startup Options - Enable or Disable in Windows 8

The last entry under Notes at the top says:

    Note   Note
If you disable the Windows 8 Startup Options GUI boot menu, then you will be able to press F8 at boot to boot to the Advanced Boot Options screen.

Once there, you should have Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking and all the other choices.

Thanks. I'll have to look at that more closely to see if there's something of value that I haven't come across another way. I like being able to get to safe mode from normal mode.

I like it too. I made the change about two weeks ago and have used it several times already.

Removing the F8 support was one of the dumber things Microsoft did. I hope they put it back in Windows 8.

Actually it is not removed, Shift + F8 should work, however it's too fast sometimes. To make sure you can do it :

To enable F8 Safe boot in Win8
    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

Yup, that's what is in the link I posted and what I did. Works well.

Shift+F8 did not work for me, ever.
