8.1 upgrade

used windows for 18 years. recently gave linux mint a try. came back to win 8 for a look and am unable to get the 8.1 upgrade. well done microsoft, you have learnt nothing

What is the problem updating Win 8 to Win 8.1

installed win 8 then upgraded to 8.1 on 20 pc's. no problem prior. now error 0x80240031. many of the dozen attempted upgrades i have tried on the one pc in the last few days come up with different errors. any posts to fix it null and void. even ms fix it plan no use. from what i can gather 10's of thousand's of users wanting to upgrade have been affected. appears it is a ms stuffup. different users getting different errors.
