    Cannot boot Windows after updates

    Hi there guys

Please can you help. I have a Samsung NP700G7C with Windows 8.1 installed (allthough I am unsure whether it was upgrading to Windows 8.1). I have no disk for this or any recovery USB.

Last night Windows was updating itself and when I went to shut down the option for 'Update and Shut Down' was there and 'Update and Restart', so I took the shut down and update option. I have done this many times before.

Today when I turned the laptop on, Windows won't load past the blue logo with the white spinning dot circle. It simply goes to black and restarts the cycle to the blue logo and goes to black

I couldn't access f2 setup or f4 recovery, so I read a suggestion to take out the battery so I did and I was then able to access f2 setup - BIOS.

I tried booting from the secure boot option, which is supposed to get me to safe mode, but I just get the message ' Tried all boot options click f4......' so then I do and it just takes me back to BIOS. f10 just gets me to various boot options, but they do the same thing and some don't seem to be relevant.

So now I am unable to do anthing with my laptop and it seems to be because of Windows Updates. Can anybody help please?

    Thank you in advance,

    D

Pressing shift + F8 during boot up should get you the menu to access safe mode, Safe Mode - Start Windows 8 in

Also have a look at this, System Restore - How to Do in Windows 8 If you have system restore enabled it might bail you out.

Don't think it was YOUR problem - but caused by Microsoft. They have re-released some updates - you might check that out and see if they suggest a solution now.

Shift + F8 didn't work for me either, I tried just F8 too and it just booted into Windows. I have the Windows 8 fast startup turned off too? I don't know why that doesn't work? One option is to do the factory recovery, if it still works. There should be an F key you press to activate the utility. It was F9 on my laptop. Your manual should tell you how to do it. It will likely erase any data you have on the drive though.

EDIT: With no physical install media your options are very limited.

    Try this:
Restart the computer in safe mode:

    • Windows 8 and Windows 8.1:
      1. If you have installation media for Windows 8.1 (such as a DVD or USB), start your computer by using the installation media. Insert the DVD or USB flash drive, and restart the computer. If you see a message that asks you to "Press any key to boot from DVD," do this. If you do not receive the message, you may have to change the restart order in your computer's BIOS settings so that the computer first starts to the DVD or USB. When you reach the Install Windows page, you should click Repair your computer to start the Windows Recovery Environment.
      2. If you do not have media, you should use the power button to restart your computer during the startup process three times. This should start the Windows Recovery Environment.
      3. As soon as your computer starts in the Windows Recovery Environment, tap or click Troubleshoot on the Choose an option screen. If you do not see the Startup Settings option, tap or click Advanced options.
      4. Tap or click Startup Settings., and then tap or click Restart.
      5. On the Startup Settings screen, select the startup setting that you want. (Press 4 for safe mode.)
      6. Sign in to your computer by using a user account that has administrator rights.
