I like Windows 8. You get two systems in one - how much better could it get. Would I pay money for it - probably not. There is not enough new function to warrent an extra expense. And the performance difference I do not really see on the SSD.

Yes, I am happy with Windows 8

Yes! I am happy with Windows 8. I'm a semi-power user developing and maintaining websites for non-profit organizations. Needless to say I live on the desktop which can be configured pretty much the same as I've done for Windows 7. There is no Quick Launch however "pin to task bar" does the same thing and there's lots of room if you use small icons. As for the lack of a Start button/menu, it turns out the Start screen and Apps screen do the same thing and are easier to use. Of course you have to configure the Start screen to provide all the links you previously used in XP or Win7; its easy to do. You can ignore the Metro apps or not. Perhaps the release version will have some you would like to use. Will I pay for an upgrade to Windows 8. At the moment I would say no but I'm using it every day, maybe I'll find something, or Microsoft will add something, that makes an upgrade worth the expense. I certainly will have no problem moving to a new computer running Windows 8.

I do have an unopened copy of MSDOS 6 if you need it :-) I even have an IBM PC (256K RAM, wow) that might run it if a monitor would be happy with its VGA output. I should have kept my first computer a TRS Model III, 64K RAM running CP/M.

I've got MS-DOS 6.22 and WFW 3.11/Office 4.5 running in VirtualBox just for when I feel like a trip down memory-lane.

Well, been a long slog indeed. After deleting crap-ware and installing a third party start app (Start Menu 8) plus Big Muscle's Aero Glass, I'm now very happy with 8. Granted, more like Franken-8 but I like it. Thank the gods above for third party coders. Still, snappier than 7 and I like the...
