You'll find hardcore votes either way. I think it will make an awesome tablet. Don't really care about the phone or desktop. I'd like to see a poll on this site asking the very question you did, just out of curiosity.

Hi josh4eaton, Welcome to the forums ,I am getting very much to like 8 , I like the fast startup and shutdown speeds ,not so fond of the metro style but in time I suppose I will get used to it. As with all new operating systems you either love or loathe it it may be better once all the metro apps work ;)

i like windows 8 as well. i also like the stat menu, it lets me have everything i need right there without having to go though a stupid list or files and folders. and my desktop stays clean.

In it's current form, the question is too broad. It's not really about 'liking' Windows 8 as a whole, it's about liking/needing certain aspects of it. Windows 8 has a lot of new and updated features, which I'm sure the majority will favour, it also has features that some, including myself, simply cannot rationalise, in a conventional desktop setting. I am, of course, referring to Metro.

Hi,

It's not really about 'liking' Windows 8 as a whole, it's about liking/needing certain aspects of it.

Exactly.

There's people who seem to like the new startmenu while others see no use for it.

So, to my mind, the question ought to be: What do you like about it and what don't you like about it?

For example, here's what I like about it so far:

- The bootmenu is kinda cute and it's mouse driven.

- Boot time must be a record since MS DOS. :p

- Shutdown is mighty fast as well.

- It at least feels faster than W7 (is it really?)

- Other than that...

Cheers, ;)

BTW: One of the first things I did once all the HW was up to date was to download the free MS Security Essentials followed by Live Mail (part of the Windows Live suit of applets).

I am not happy with Windows 8. When Windows 7 beta came out I ran it and had zero problems with it. The same can't be said for Windows 8 beta. I would like to see Microsoft release a program that will remove the Windows 8 consumer preview and restore Windows 7. Before you jump in and tell me I should have set it up dual boot to try. I said I had zero problems with the 7 beta so that made me think 8 should be alright....

I like it, but then I didn;t have Vista or Win7 to compare it to. I am a hard-core XP user and have been for a decade. Until I was practically given this corrupt machine I'm on now, you couldn't have pried XP out of my hands.

Metro is definitely different, and I'm not really sure I need that on a desktop or laptop. I would probably find it most useful on a phone or tablet.

It's fast, both starting and shutting down and has a few new features I'm not used to yet, but can adapt to. The longer I'm using this the less I find myself using the Metro desktop. I thought it was pretty novel at first, but with it's limited funtionality and apps at the present time, I find that I'm not using it as much as I was a week ago.

Other than a glitch with iTunes that I'm sure will be worked out by the release date, it runs as good or better than XP Pro on a similar machine.

I have xp on my 12+ year old desktop and win 7 on my tablet,(hp slate 500). I don't like the looks of metro and my tablet starts up and shuts down fast enough for me.
