    compmgmt.msc corrupted !

I normally access computer management from the context menu of the computer on the desktop. Mainly for device and disk management. For some reason I can access both diskmgmt.msc and devmgmt.msc from the command prompt but compmgmt.msc does nothing.

Any ideas on how to fix the corrupted file?

    Thanks.

Does it work from the Run box (Window key + R)?

What about if you right click on This PC and select Manage?

It won't work from anywhere at all. Not from run box, not from admin tools, not from Right click on my pc, not from command line directly within the folder. Not as admin. Nothing. This is a file that once installed does not change or move , unless by defragmentation process. it is just read and executed. Why should it get affected at all ?

Open a Elevated Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
Let it run to completion, see if that helps.

I did that. It gave me a very long text log file. Ultimately Windows itself detected that some files were missing and offered to "REFRESH" the installation on its own. Connected my installer media and let it do it. It removed ALL user (by me) installed software and gave me an html file on desk with this removed software list, publisher's name + link and version number. I supposedly did not lose any data but then I don't store it on C: anyways. I somehow have a feeling that it has something to do with the with the hardware. It is an original Intel motherboard. I have 2 sata connected drives.Too frequently it simply won't load the extended partition on one of them. It even loses connection in the middle of a session. Have switched cables and ports in vain. Took almost a year for Intel to update the bios so that onboard USB 3 header would work properly. AMD is equally bad. Their chipsets and USB implementation is simply horrible. Wish Arm comes up with a 16 core processor for desktop and I would drop all and sundry in a blink. Or wish VIA comes up with a processor for desktop use. In my 25 years of dealing with hardware they are the only ones with a bulletproof design. I also handle a few 20 year old via based machines running win98 which even today run without a single problem!

The problem was not exactly solved but only sorted out. I never found out why this happened !
