“you don’t have currently persimmons to access this folder” issue,

Very recently, as I aim to open some folders I got the message “you don’t have currently persimmons to access this folder” (attached).

Is there any setting at the level of windows that stops this message to appear?

Thank you

Best

Jamal

Hello Jamal, :)

What happens when you click on Continue?

Normally, you would be prompted by UAC to approve access. You would need to be an administrator to do so though.

I often have the same thing ; I click 'Continue' and I go to the next step, without being asked for any further authorisation.

Hm. As far as I know, ever since Window 7 (not sure about vista), this whole new UAC business made it that even if you ARE an administrator. Windows will still prompt you when you escalate to use these privileges. In your situation I'd suspect that your permissions are a little messed up. I think you could check by doing this:

I would suspect that not all boxes are ticked in your case.

I might be completely wrong in this as well! But may as well check :)

When you click on "Continue", you should not get the “you don’t have currently persimmons to access this folder” message anymore for that specific folder.

Since this is on another drive (F: ) that you evidently do not have permission to access by default as Red posted above, you could use the "Take Ownership" context menu item to take ownership of your F: to gain ownership and "full control" permissions of it. :)

Thanks Reddd for the help,

Please, have a look on the “users” settings. Full permission is given

What other issues should I consider?

Thanks Brink,

I applied the “take ownership” approach you have already described but never worked (attached)

What might be the issue here?

Thanks Brink.

What other settings should I consider?

By the way, the F drive is external drive of 2TB. Does this make any difference?

In that case, see if this may help.

Use step 2 in OPTION FOUR below to take ownership of the F: drive with either your account or the Administrators group. At step 11, be sure to check the Replace owner of subcontainers and objects box.

Thanks Brink,

But why I’m having this issue now? I used to access any folder in F without having this frustrating message? What is the cause of this message?

Your last screenshot showed the owner of the F: drive as a long SID instead of an actual user or group.

A SID is a unique ID number for a user account. When you see a SID in permissions or as owner instead of the user's account name, it means that the user account has either been deleted or no longer available at the time.

This could also easily happen if you say removed F: from another computer, and connected it in this computer. The user from the other computer that has permissions on the drive are obviously not on this computer.

Usually setting your account or the Administrators group as the owner with "full control" permissions and applying to all subcontainers and objects on F: would let you have access again without having to click on "Continue" to approve first.

Just wanted to chime in to say I found this info very useful as I never realized what that string actually meant. I usually just deleted it where I could, making sure I had the correct credentials there for ownership.

Thanks
