    How do I wipe my HD when this happens


    My windows 8 on my ACER won't let me wipe my drive. I have cd's that I bought to wipe my drive BUT every time I restart my laptop the disks never engage.....goes start to the start screen. I have tried all the F2 to make sure its selecting the DVD drive first... ....Help this non techy

    Try holding down the Power button until you hear the drive spin down(if you have a spinner.) In any case it should shut it all the way down. Wait about 10 seconds and hit the Power button again to bring it up.

    it sounds more the disk you bought are not bootable ,what if i may ask were the name of the disk or program or do you mean you bought win8 recovery dvd/cd,s

    No all are bootable CD- because I used them in other laptops. one is called WipeDrive- usually when I start the laptop back up they open and have a menu. Some of them perform other tasks such as cloning etc. Even f8 does nothing in this laptop.....only f2

    Is the DVD drive configured within the BIOS as a choice to start?

    What OS was running in the other Laptops? With W8 things have changed. UEFI, GPT, secure boot etc..
