Recovery partition showing after upgrading to Windows 8.1

I upgraded my new refurbished Dell 15 7000 from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. Now, my hidden recovery drives are showing on "My Computer". On Windows 8, they were hidden so the user, or softwares, can't access the partitioned recovery drives.

After upgrading to windows 8.1, they are all visible on "My Computer" and files are be written on them. How can I hide these drives? I am afraid of doing Windows Update or installing Office 365 since they extract the files on a different drive and move them back to C drive.

Sorry for the bump, but I made too many spelling mistakes. This was not my fault, it's the iPads. The auto correct feature is a pain.

Open disk management (Win+X->Disk Management) and right click on each of the the partitions->Change Drive letter->Remove will make the partitions hidden.

OK, Since they are recovery partitions, you will have to use diskpart. Open the Admin Command Prompt (Win+X->Command Prompt (Admin)).
  1. Type: diskpart <Enter>
  2. list volume <Enter>
  3. Make note of the number of the simple volume whose drive letter you want remove.
  4. Select volume # <Enter> where # is noted in step 3
  5. Remove Letter=X <Enter> where X is the drive letter you want to remove.
  6. Repeat steps 4-6 for other volumes.

Wow, topgun Thank you so much. It was easy and it worked perfectly. I've been looking for this solution since I got my new laptop.

I too have this situation, although diskpart did not help.

My partition:
Partition.PNG

meanwhile in diskpart:

Diskpart.PNG

Any reason I can not remove this 400+ recovery?

Remove just gets rid of the drive letter. You haven't got a letter on that partition.

Suggest you use a free 3rd party tool, like aomei partition assistant, or partition wizard. Winre.wim might on there. Better move it first.

Thanks, I ran gparted using a Mint disk.

So in order to expand C:/ (above) I need to now assign a letter to the 300gb partition. Correct?

Edit: I used Mini tool partition wizard:thumb:

Did you remove the 450MB partition ? In order to merge C: with the 368 GB, they need to be adjacent. However, For Windows OS, 100 GB is good, I would suggest that you initialize the unallocated 368 GB partition and store your personal data there so if in case your Windows becomes unbootable or infected by virus then you don't have to worry about losing your personal data if you have to do a Reset/Refresh. In addition, it would be easier to backup/Restore Windows.
