I run Win8 from a USB stick. Every time I indirectly acces the Win7 disk - e.g. by opening the Computer window in Win8 or by opening Disk Management in Win8, I get a problem.

When I reboot my Win7, Chkdsk runs and seems to repair the Win7 disk first. Then Win7 boots after first going thru the BIOS again. But once it did boot but I only got a black screen with a strip on the bottom which looked like an empty taskbar. Cursor was working but nothing else. Looked like the Explorer was damaged.

Any ideas why that happens ??

No idea why it happens at all. I've experienced the same chkdsk /f thing booting to Win7 after I had 8 running. I've never previously had any issues whatsoever with my HDDs and still don't.

For some reason, 8 is setting the flag to do this kind of checking. While it is a nuisance, it is definitely not the results of any HDD damage or other problem.

Let the chkdsk do it's thing completely and it should all resolve on its own. Immediately or eventually.

Right GMan. As long as it gets back to my Win7. But the one time when it got my system stuck I had to restore the system from an image. No big deal, but still a nuisance. I also think that there is no damage to my Win7 disk which is a 90GB SSD.
