    W.8.1 Pro Update 1

Thanks again. I'm getting smarter - the hard way! I'll delete the last two partitions and see what happens. I've backed up the old Hard Drive and the SSD every step along the way so whatever happens I can recover the OEM setup or W8.1 or W8.1 Update 1.

On my ASUS laptop after doing a clean UEFI install this is what I was left with.

I had a hard drive that I took out of my desktop when I swapped in an SSD and there were some partitions that Windows wouldn't let me delete though disk management. I used diskpart and the override switch to do it. Example: delete partition 3 /override < I think that's how it went.

Ken429, one recovery partition is for Windows 8.0. The other is for 8.1, then you have one added by 8.1.1 for some reason.

If you were to create the Recovery (WINRE) partition using Diskpart what name would you need to assign to it? Would it be "Recovery" or "WINRE" ??? and I assume it would be formatted NTFS.

Don't think the label matters. It seems for autofailover you may need to use partition ID DE94BBA4-06D1-4D40-A16A-BFD50179D6AC

Probably best to make it a touch under 500mb, 495mb for example.

    Great! Thanks for the info.

I cloned over my HDD to an SSD using Macrium. Before the cloning I created EFI and MSR partitions with diskpart. I was changing from legacy boot MBR to GPT disk and UEFI boot. I left out the recovery partition, this of course means I don't have the windows recovery tools. I don't really need them since I have the windows 8.1 install disk and I use Macrium for images. However, at some point (if I get another SSD) I may rebuild a system drive and add the recovery partition just to get it to stock.
