Option to show metro apps in taskbar missing

I have searched far and wide over google, But I cannot find the solution to this issue. I even opened the help document for windows and even it tells me to go to Taskbar and Navigation to show metro apps on the taskbar. Well this is what it looks like for me:

Apparently there's supposed to be a checkbox that reads "Show store apps on taskbar" but that isn't there! I have a version of Windows 8.1 that doesn't have this option. Any help? I really liked this feature. This worked for me until I installed a fresh installation of Windows 8.1.

Hello Enitoni, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Did you install the Windows 8.1 Update yet?

That option is only available after the Windows 8.1 Update has been installed via Windows Update.

    Hi there

Just an addition too -- Metro apps can also be pinned to the Desktop if you like operating your computer that way -- that might be convenient if you want to run say one or two Metro apps (For example I like News and Sport) from the desktop without having to leave the desktop environment. (Again Windows 8.1).

This feature I think will be more useful as Metro apps themselves become better -- the initial lot aren't really up to much IMO - especially one they use fixed size screens (1/2, 1/4 etc). A re-sizeable window will make these hugely better especially if you are using multiple monitors of which one is a nice BIG one.

Brink has some tutorials on this and I've posted too -- just search the Forum.

    Cheers

Yes I have. It says 8.1 and it says everything is up to date. I have no idea what's causing this but it is very frustrating because the last installation I had let me do this. I use Skype a lot and having to click start everytime I need to access it is annoying and time consuming. Thank you for the help though

Check your update history and make sure KB2919355 was in fact installed. If not you can get it here, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update: April 2014
Windows showing Windows 8.1 and being up to date doesn't mean update 1 is actually installed. It's best to double check.
