Hi. I recently reinstalled Windows 8.1 and noticed this white box around a tile or setting when I hover over it. It's like accessiblity or something but I didn't change any settings than what I usually do. This has never happened on any older Installations before. I think it may have imported a setting from my Microsoft account but I'm not sure. There is another person who is experiencing the same situation like me but they didn't find a solution I think. How do I remove these "autofocus" selection borders from the Windows 8.1/8 tile screen? - Super User

Here is a screenshot of my problem:

Any help is appreciated. Thanks. :)

Hi. The dotted rectangle is really annoying and I would like to get rid of it permanently. Refreshing desktop and restarting PC is just a temporary fix. I tried the universal remover but it didn't work after I restarted. The focus rectangle was still there. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Custom theme? I don't get the white lines as shown in your first screen shot, all I get is a slight color change.
My recycle bin also doesn't look like that, more like what's in your third screen shoot, a light blue box with a thin line around it.

I deleted the custom/unsaved/synced themes and loaded up a Windows default theme and still same thing. :l

What folks are seeing are related to where Windows has the focus whether an icon, maybe a tile, a file name, etc. That focus goes back quite a ways in showing what will occur if the Enter key is pressed, can be handy in conjunction with the Tab key when the mouse quits working.

Hi there

Is this what you mean because I'm not totally sure.

I really can't say it bothers me greatly though if you mean the slight "fuzziness" at the extreme edge of the Icon

Cheers

EDIT:
The aforementioned option doesn't work for the blue rectangle in your post #3, however,
if you go to Control Panel►Folder Options►View tab and in the list check 'Use check boxes to select items', (click Apply and OK), then the rectangle won't appear when you mouse hover over a selection.

Hi. No, not the translucent box, the dotted outline around it.

I tried that before, but it was still there... :/
