Unable to project to second screen after 8.1 update

Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this issue. I searched quite a bit but was unable to find anything exactly like my issue. Three days ago I updated my laptop to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8. After doing so my laptop began to have the black screen issue which I resolved by following the steps from this page:

Now I am unable to project to a second screen. My set up is two monitors connected to my laptop (One from a directly connected HDMI cable and the other by an HDMI cable, connected to a utility bar, connected to my laptop by usb). I have already updated my graphics driver to the latest edition and still get the message "Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card."

I NEVER had an issue with this before the update and I'm really regretting doing so right about now, please help!

I'm guessing the "utility bar" as you call it is a USB video card. The driver that needs updating is likely for it.

I thought that too, but if that were the case wouldnt the monitor directly plugged into the laptop with an HDMI cable have worked?

Where did you get the graphics driver you used to update with? I try the laptop manufacturer first.

I have an HP and got the driver update from the HP website. I have a feeling that it isn't showing up because I disabled my graphics adapter like the previous link told me to do in order to fix the black screen. The problem is that if I enable it the screen automatically will go back to being black.

No it doesn't have a cursor.

Well, I don't know what to tell you. I hope you made recovery media before you did the upgrade to 8.1, you may have to do a factory restore to fix things. Some people have had issues trying to go back to their factory 8.0 install after doing the upgrade to 8.1.
