    Upgrading from 32bit Windows 8.1 to 64bit.

    Hi Guys.

I've recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, but for some reason it installed Windows 8.1 32-bit, instead of the 64 bit version. I've left it this way for a week or so but some of the applications I use need to be 64 bit.

Basically, how do I upgrade to a 64 bit version of Windows 8.1? Microsofts website is about as helpful as a chocolate teapot.

    Thanks a bunch in advance

If your processor is X32, it cannot be upgraded to 64 bit Windows. Only X64 and X86 can. Check your cpu specifications.

No, my computer can definitely use 64 bit operating systems http://puu.sh/awaUv/c9fae34e28.png

I'll check out that guide, thanks. Will it matter that I bought the upgrade to Windows 8 instead of the standalone?

EDIT: Guide didn't help, thanks anyway.

Assuming you do have a 64 bit processor, it is a complete fresh install going from 32 to 64. It is not an upgrade.

download this tool to determine if your cpu support X64 bit systems
    https://www.grc.com/securable.htm
if yes download and install it : if no your cpu wont boot from it at all

If you had 64 bit 7 installed it should have installed 64 bit 8.1. What kind of install media? Are you doing it through the Store?

I think popeye has answered that one. You have to do fresh install for 32 to 64, no upgrade possible.

When I installed it last time it gave me no option to choose a 64 bit OS.
