saving files from samsung laptop with boot problem

    • I have a Samsung laptop (model : NP370RSE). When I start it doesnt boot ( File: /BCD. Error code 0x000000d). I have made a recovery disk (USB) from Win 8, but the choices I get seem to "remove" my files. I have some pictures on the HD I would like to save.

When the recovery says "remove" is it the same as "erase"?
Any idea how I get my pictures out of the harddrive prior to formating/reinstallation of Win 8?

Hello Frafroe, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes, remove would be the same as erase.

If you haven't already, you might see if doing an automatic repair may be able to fix your boot manager.
If not, you could create a Live Peppermint DVD/USB on an other computer, then boot from it on your computer to hopefully recover the files with.

    Hope this helps for now,

How did you create your recovery disk? If you do boot from it and there is a Refresh option, use that, it will not erase your personal files. See this:

How to find files from hard drive using Peppermint

I tried to run a Recovery using Win 8 but I never found out how to find where the recovered files were stored.

I made an bootable USB with peppermint 3 installed. I am now able to start the laptop I am not able to find the files I look for using the File manager in Peppernint. If you look at the picture attached I think the hard drive where pictures and other files (in My documents) is the one called "977 GB volume". When running Win8 I believe it was labelled "C". There was also a password protection when I started Win 8.

Any idea how I find my old files in My documents and My pictures?

They should be somewhere within your "Home Folder" folder.

All the folders in "Home Folder" seem to be empty. Isnt "Home Folder" a part of the Peppermint OS?

I'm just going by the example in the tutorial below, but you would want to open the drive that's for your Windows installation to search in for them.
