No sarcasm to the op. It is something very noticeable on the few dedicated Windows 8 forums at the moment - repetition.

Dave, you are correct. I keep finding this problem posted in different threads. Also, I installed a Windows 7 theme on the desktop today, and it activated the "Desktop" block on the Metro interface. When I click on that, it switches me to the classical desktop.

Elsewhere on the forum, I'm finding complicated methods of switching.

There is a thread where people are looking to go direct to the main ui without clicking anything or pressing anything - and preferably without seeing the kids screen at all.

If you have found a way of doing that - it would useful.

"Ctrl+Esc" and "Windows key" only work if Desktop was started once before.

After a new boot these keys don't work.

But "Windows key + D" works always.

So I think "Ctrl+Esc" and "Windows key" is only a switch between Metro start menu and Desktop.

NiFu, you are correct. There are several complicated ways to switch back and forth, and there are a couple of easy ways. 8 starts with the Metro desktop by default. So if you don't like it, press the Windows key, and the problem is solved. But as I work with 8 , I'm liking the Metro interface better.

CTL+ESC is a toggle key. Win+D always gets you to the desktop.
