Solved Laptop hung up on boot with UEFI enabled

I was using my laptop with everything going smoothly. USB port with adapter and CF card inserted. Ear buds in audio port. I decided to close the laptop which automatically puts the system in hibernate (or whatever it does when fast startup is active). Everything looked good. Now when I come back to it, open the lid and begin to startup from hibernate state it gets hung in the bootup and will not proceed. I have tried holding the power button to shut down and then restart -- no joy -- comes back to the same hung screen. Have tried holding various escape keys with startup -- no joy -- back to that same hung screen. Is there some way to bypass the hyberfil file which is probably corrupted, and get back to a full cold boot and restart from scratch?

Don't know if this is true or not, but ...

When the computer attempts to resume from hibernation, press SPACE key. You will be presented with 2 options - either to continue with system resume or to delete the hibernation file and start with system boot. Choose the second option.

Thanks for the effort. Tried that -- no joy. On this laptop there is no indication of disk drive activity. I'm assuming it is running. There are lights for power, battery charging, and WiFi, but no HDD activity indicator :(. Since a screen appears that says Toshiba on it it may be hung in a BIOS POST mode of some sort. When I first tried to re-start (by opening the lid and waking from hibernation) everything seemed to be normal. The Toshiba screen has an activity indicator (like a file transfer screen with the little arrow moving to the right) which was moving normally and seemed to be loading from the HDD. The that stopped moving and will not proceed.

I was wondering about a way to actually shut the machine completely down, go to the BIOS and turn fast start off??

Problem solved. Just on the off chance I stuck in a different USB chip and tried powering up. Voila:shock:, the system came up to where I had left it. Don't know what the problem was, or the solution?? Just glad it's running. Thanks for your reply. Think I'm going to turn that Fast Start option OFF! On or off it really doesn't seem to make much difference on the boot time anyhow.
