Hi! This is my first post so please bear with my question :)

I have a big problem with my laptop. It is running on windows 8.1. The 'shutting down' and 'shut down anyway' screens somewhat turned like windows 2000 shutdown style.

It has windows that have 'end now' and 'cancel' options. I don't know what I did. It just happened one time i shut down my laptop. Can it be a registry problem? Or if not, is there any way I can revert it back to the default shutting down screen? Advance thanks.

There are 3 registry tweaks: HungAppTimeout, AutoEndTasks and WaitToKillAppTimeout
If you wish, you can use the attachement below to speed up shutdown time. Unzip and double click on the reg file to merge.

Look for an updated version of that program, reinstall it, or uninstall it. If all it does is manage your wireless connections, you can ditch completely and let Windows do that natively.

No. The window is my problem, not the software. Yes, my system shuts down.

There should be a list of apps waiting to be shut down, right? But instead it looks like that. windows 2000 style. You're going to end everything one by one.

The one time I had a similar issue it was due to Logitech's Setpoint software. Uninstalling that software and then eventually replacing it with a newer version fixed the issue.

I would give it a try. When I had my Setpoint issue, the shutdown screen listing the offending program was blank, like it is for you. It was trial and error for me to sort out what was doing it.

Did these issues start maybe after upgrading to Windows 8.1 though the Windows store? It may be time to do a Refresh or Reset.

Refresh is the least invasive, http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2293-refresh-windows-8-a.html. A Reset will pretty well wipe everything, especially on a factory OEM install, its the same as doing a factory recovery. http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2302-reset-windows-8-a.html. Read though the tutorials and it should tell you what stays and what goes. Any Apps you've installed will show up in the My Apps section of the Windows Store and can easily be reinstalled. Once you buy them they are yours.

Just to make it clear, does refreshing your system will clear some apps and won't clear any personal files, right?
