I have a new win 8.1 computer. I am still setting up the new computer. I wanted to back up the HD to my external fantom 2 TB drive, which has a lot of data already on it. My new win 8.1 computer wanted to set up the factory backup files. I choose the fantom drive and I thought it would just put a factory restore file folder on it. It did not. MY 2 tb drive now only shows 32 gigs and it shows 1831.01 gb as unallocated. How do I get my drive back and especially all of my data that was on it. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

First, do not try to write or do anything to the external drive. Download: Recuva - Portable
to your desktop, unzip, run and follow the wizard to recover your data to another drive. You will never recover all the data but it is better than nothing.

I loaded the Recuva, but it is not seeing anything except the 32 gig portion of the drive. So, the 1831 gb are invisible. How can I remove the partition without erasing any of the data on the drive?

I am not familiar with the partition recovery module? How do I run that? Where is that located in Win 8.1?

Help an old guy out here. If I understand correctly, he basically turned his 2TB backup drive into a 32GB recovery USB stick? Whoa, hope it is recoverable. :(

I defer to you SIW2, I hope you can help him.

It is not in win8.1 already.

You need to install the free program I linked to.

What did you think that link was for?

Partition Wizard Minitool is the application in the link provided for you to use to hopefully recover the lost partitions from your drive. Alternatively, you can also try to use Partition Find and Mount.
