Hi,

My equipment, HP700-050 Envy. Purchased 11 Nov 13, windows 8.0 to win 8.1, no problem until two weeks ago. The Activation Window would come up every day and state it needs to be activated. I called Microsoft, and they had me revert back to 8.0, install all updates, then 8.1. All my apps/pgms gone. It seemed to be running fine until I did a restart. Got a Blue Screen on Startup, some disk activity. Called Microsoft, they had me unplug (from the wall) three times, this caused a recovery window to start, theycould not explain what the problem was. After restarting, same thing, hangs, booted several times until system came up. Everything is fine for now, runs better that before, but I'm worried about the next restart. My HP has an HP Quick Start App, and was wondering if this is interfering with the Start up process? Any ideas? Help. DrJNAB.

I have the HP 500-075 purchased around the same time as yours and came with 8. Right after first start-up I made sure it was current with all updates, windows and drivers then upgraded to 8.1. Since then I have installed all windows updates as soon as they have come available. I have not experienced any of the same problems but I would recommend you uninstall the HP Quick Start immediately. I did same first thing as well as disabling most all of the HP Support Assistant because some of the scheduled tasks were causing errors. I also uninstalled HP Device Detect in Programs & Features cause it was causing very high CPU usage and it is absolutely not needed.

Hopefully you are running fine now and if so I recommend you create a Custom Refresh Image so you can use the Refresh Feature and consider a third party Image Backup Program like Macrium or similar and store on external drive.

Hope Everything Is Working Properly
