I have been having issues with my PC restarting and telling me something along the lines your Windows has encountered a problem and is collecting data and will restart now. So it would seem my install is corrupted in some manner.

So I have tried doing the Windows refresh but I cannot get passed the option of inserting media into drive. I place my Win8 64 bit professional CD into my drive and it reads it and just tell me incorrect media. I am now not sure how to move forward with this issue. :(

I know how to do a clean install but I wanted to save my data as it is now but I found a way to do that as well by using the keep history of files.

You could use File History if you wish or Aomei, the choice is yours. I prefer using Aomei.

I am not sure how that works as I have a corrupt Windows install now so would that restore the corruption once again after the clean install

If you are just backing up your files, would not be a problem.

File History only backs up copies of files that are in the Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, and Desktop folders and the OneDrive files available offline on your PC. If you have files or folders elsewhere that you want backed up, you can add them to one of these folders.
Aomei Backupper
will make an image of the drive/partition and include everything, you can then explore the image and selectively restore your data.

Or you can use the file backup option in Aomei.

I think the refresh problem is because you are using 8.0 dvd to try and refresh 8.1 install?

You would need 8.1 dvd if that is the case.
