    No thumbnails for pictures

I'm not getting any thumbnails showing for any of my pictures, .jpg, .bmp, .png, etc.

I tried deleting C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\IconCache.db then rebooting, no change.

I suspect I turned something off to see how but forgot to turn it back on. How do I get thumbnails to show for my pictures again.

I looked through gpedit but did not notice anything.

This is what I'm seeing. I can change the icon that shows by changing the default program.

    Hey Rich,

Double check to make sure that you have thumbnail previews enabled.

Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Help Forums

If you do, then double check to make sure that you have either the modern Photos app (default) or Windows Photo Viewer set as the default program for all of it's associations.

The entry Always show icons, never thumbnails is missing from Folder Options / View. I ran the .reg file from the Tutorials

Folder Options - Add or Remove View Items in Windows 8

to add Always show icons, never thumbnails but the option does not reappear in Folder Options / View.

Forgot, .jpg default is Windows Photo Viewer.

Did you try switching the default jpg viewer to see if anything changes?

If you haven't already, you might see if restarting the PC after merging the .reg file may restore it.

Were any of the other options in the other tutorial to enable thumbnail previews available?

Found it! It was in gpedit. Option Four found it for me.

I don't remember doing that but I fiddle with so much stuff I'm not surprised.

I dunno why Windows 7 and now 8 always want to delete thumbnail caches at random and often. I have had this problem since the first leak of 7. For some, the problem may be the Disc Cleanup utility or CCleaner. Mine are set NOT to delete caches but yet I still suffer. Here is the fix that...
