Computer wakes from sleep every 15 minutes.

Hi there. I just got a new Win 8 computer. I love it, however it wakes from sleep mode every 15 minutes on the dot. It will wake for about 2 minutes than sleep again.

Is this something it should do in order to get some air flow every once in a while or can I stop it from doing this? I have searched around online and tried everything i have come across. I turned off the setting that allows programs to wake the computer, as well as made sure the ethernet connection doesn't wake it.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Go to Power Options in the Control Panel, Change what the Power Settings Do, Change Advanced Power Settings, scroll down to Sleep and expand it, Allow Wake Timers and expand that. If the Setting says Enable, click to disable it. I believe that should take care it. If not put it back to where it was and we shall look at something else.

Put it back to the way it was.

In the elevated command prompt type powercfg -devicequery wake_armed to see which devices can wake up the PC.

Change any "Wake on" BIOS settings to Diasabled

En the Event Viewer, Windows logs, you may see what applications are waking the computer.

Hello Tylr, and welcome to Eight Forums.

In addition, check in Event Viewer to see if the wake source log may help to ID what is waking your PC.

I think you may be getting onto something. In event viewer, it shows that every 15 minutes during sleep that the ethernet network is losing connection. I'm not sure why it is doing this every 15 minutes exactly.

In the "power management" tab of my ethernet connection, the setting are set to not wake the computer, however that doesn't seem to stop it. I am going to try to unplug my ethernet to make sure that is the issue. I will report back.

I unplugged the ethernet cord and it is no longer waking while sleeping. I double checked the settings for the network, and as far as I can tell the setting should be right so that the ethernet connect should not wake the computer. Can you take a look at the screenshots below and see if anything looks wrong?

    Tylr,

In addition, see if using OPTION TWO to prevent these devices from being able to wake the computer will stop it without having to unplug the ethernet cable.

Tested this for about 45 minutes and the computer stayed asleep. It looks like that was the issue! Thanks everyone here for your help! This is one of the more active forums I have been on.
