Solved Cant minimize screen since update to 8.1

Please have patience. I am 70 years old with Basic Computer skills.

Usually when on my Desk Top screen I could go to Google Search,find a site that I wanted to add to my desk top (not bookmark) , minimize it and then drag the address on to the Desk Top screen.

What happens now is that when trying to minimize it shows a blank screen underneath ? The only way that I can get back to the Desk Top is by going to top left corner and obviously I cant drag to there.

Would be eternally grateful if, in simple layman's terms, someone could explain how to rectify this

What browser are you using ?

I suspect you are using the Metro version of IE?

I think you have done this, but:

Open the Tools - Internet Options - Program, tab

Tick "Open Internet explorer tiles on the desktop"


I am not sure I understand your procedure, as posted, after that.

I then right click a space on the site I am looking at and, in the drop down, select, "create a shortcut"

I answer yes to the panel which appears, and then have a shortcut on my desktop, which, if needed, I can rename.

Right off the bat I would say to do this---

I have tried that & it doesn't work for me.

I don't use Opera but it works for other browsers: IE, Firefox, Chrome

It's probably just an Opera thing.

Just try a portable version of Opera and it also works. Perhaps it has something to do with your security settings that prevents it.

I just add a page to Speed Dial or Stash with Opera.
One click for either.
