Is it possible to use Windows 8 key for Windows 8.1?

I have Windows 8 Pro installed about 15 months ago.
Now I need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro.

When I looked into the Store to update, it says 8.1 is 2.6GB.
Whereas in forums, I find the 8.1 pro ISO files about 1.4GB.
(I care for the size because I'm in India where our internet isn't that fast)

Can I download the 8.1 ISO file and install it using the existing Win8 key or do I need a new 8.1 key?

    Thanks.

Since the download is a one time thing go for the free upgrade in the Store.
Start the download when you are ready to go to bed & let it run.
The next update--- commonly called 8.1.1 is big too.
Once you have them you have them.
    Just my opinion.
    Do as you wish.

Activate retail Windows 8.1 with Windows 8 Product key.

8.1 Pro @ 1.4 GB does not sound right at all? The official Microsoft ISO's are in the 3 GB range for 32 bit and 4 GB for 64 bit.

Well sometimes it is not as easy, I had to download it 3 times and it failed every time and it rolled back.
Each setup and rollback took about 3 hours, download took only about 15 min, so I would prefer stable iso.
Granted, it does not happen often, but since we are talking about downloading 8.1 + Update 1, iso is smaller.
For the record, mine Win Pro 8.1 Update 1 x64 ISO has 3,83GB, activated with a legal 8 key with a reg tweak.

    Hi there.

    @gokulnc

I am at a loss to understand why India with by far the largest I.T outsourcing facilities on the planet still has a slow broadband -- however if this is something you can't do anything about then just download overnight when rates should be cheaper too if you don't have unlimited broadband.

Surprise for me to hear that India had slow broadband -- especially as it's got its own SPACE and NUCLEAR programs and has some quite decent universities. Seems something has gone a bit awry with the infrastructure there.

    Cheers

I think the 1.4gb .iso is the updates, which you can then integrate.

Easier to get iso with integratipn already done, but it is bigger.

@Jimbo, have you been to India recently?

I would think its like anywhere else on the planet, it all depends on what part of that Country you live in. If your not in a highly populated area your likely not going to get high speed intranet. Also, some people buy the cheapest service they can find or afford. You get what you pay for.
