do you have any disk backup software enabled and if you run in a command prompt
    powercfg lastwake

does it say a item woke it up? you probably have something scheduled to wake and us your computer for some task under scheduled tasks.

More than likely, Automatic Maintenance is set to happen around 3 AM if not changed. Look at the maintenance section of Action Center, it will indicate the last time it ran.

As has been mentioned, several things can wake it up, Windows Updates being one of them.

If you want to check, open and Administrative command prompt window and type the command below. This will only work if the system has not gone back to sleep before entering the command.

    powercfg /lastwake

In the elevated command prompt type powercfg /waketimers, it will display a list of scheduled tasks that will wake up the computer. You might find something there.
Wake timer could cause the problem, if you go into the Advanced power settings, Change plan settings category, you can disable Wake Timers. This might fix your issue. mine is disabled.

BTW Your computer could wake up remotely but only if it is set up to do so. I doubt this is the applicable in your case.

To wake a system up remotely, not only does your system have to be setup on your network card properties, but your physical router has to have wake-on-lan enabled by creating a custom port forwarding rule.

To check your network card, open Computer Management, then Devices and find your Network Card. Under it's properties, select the Advanced tab and see if the wake-on-lan is enabled.

By default most routers don't have a pre-configured setting for wake-on-lan. You would have to go to the admin page for your particular router to see how it is setup.

    Hello Peeg,

In addition, you could also read your wake source event logs to see if it may reveal what woke the computer.

Hi, I have been getting frequent BSODs after waking my computer from sleep mode. The error names fluctuate but the three that I have seen the most often are "DPC_Watchdog_violation", "Bad_Pool_Header" and "Kernel_security_check_violation". I would greatly appreciate any help in resolving this...
I've actually had this problem for a while, I really should have taken care of it sooner. It is mostly because I found ways around it, which probably aren't too good for my computer. If I leave music running in the background and put the computer to sleep then the error won't occur. Needless-to-say...
Hi there. I just got a new Win 8 computer. I love it, however it wakes from sleep mode every 15 minutes on the dot. It will wake for about 2 minutes than sleep again. Is this something it should do in order to get some air flow every once in a while or can I stop it from doing this? I have...

This began recently (with the 8.1 update). It'll wake up out of the blue (the monitor doesn't seem to turn on until I wiggle the mouse though) and then after like a minute it's back to sleep. I disabled the mouse from being able to wake it up and it's still doing it. Any ideas?
Hello, hopefully you guys can help me from spending money on new hardware (although I'd love to lol). I've had a BSOD issue for the past 3-4 months. It usually happens when I wake my computer up. Once I get the BSOD, it restarts, usually hangs up before getting to Windows or as Windows is loading,...
A while ago I had a problem with a Computer running Windows 8 Pro x64 where it would wake up very early in the morning or various times at night. It wasn't nice since the computer is in my bedroom. Eventually, a Microsoft Support person disabled the Wake Timers but that didn't help. Finally, for no...
