Need help with changing F keys.

I need help changing my function keys back to the old way of using them. Where pressing the Fn key would do the task pictured on the button, rather than just "press" the key. I have already gone to the UEFI menu, and there is no option to change them back, and when I look at screenshots of the UEFI menu, I have much less options than others. Why is this, and how do I change it?

    Hi,

It will help if you fill out your system specs so we know what laptop/hardware you have.

This tutorial will show you how to do that - System Spec - Fill In Your EightForums System Spec

Sorry but not sure I understand the question. Do you mean you have to press Fn then the F key to make it work whereas just pressing the F key by itself does something else?

As a last resort you can use this simple open source program:

AutoHotkey: macro and automation Windows scripting language

I think he wants to toggle it. On my laptop I have to press the Fn key and an F key to do what's pictured on the key. Volume up down etc. That's what the OP wants. On my fathers laptop its the other way around. The F keys do what's pictured without having to press the Fn key first. That's what the OP has now. I haven't found any way to switch that functionality around and revers it. Not on my laptop anyway.

I believe you are correct but without knowing the OP's system spec (laptop make/model) it's hard to offer a solution.

If its a HP laptop this should help - Disable The Fn + Function Key Combination on Certain Models | HP Support

    There are 2 options
Disabled : Requires pressing and holding the function key (fn) while pressing one of the f1 through f12 keys to use the action indicated on the action key.
For example, on some computer models, if the Action Keys Mode is Disabled , pressing thef11 key will minimize and maximize a web browser if open. Alternatively, pressing and holding the fn + f11 keys will mute the sound.
The action keys may vary depending on the model of notebook.

Enabled : Requires pressing only one of the f1 through f12 keys to use the action as indicated on the action key.
For example, on some computer models, if the Action Keys Mode is Enabled , pressingf11 will mute the sound as indicated on the action key. Alternatively, pressing and holdingfn + f11 will minimize and maximize a web browser if open.
The action keys may vary depending on the model of notebook.
On a Samsung if i remember rightly pressing FN + NUM LOCK changes this feature

There are the primary makes we have at work so not sure about others off the top of my head.

Good point. I don't have that option in the BIOS of my ASUS laptop, I wish I did. My fathers laptop is an HP though. He liked the F keys working the way they were so I didn't explore trying to toggle it.

I have an older Dell here that only has two options setting in the bios ,you use either the FN key or num-lock key ,no way to disable the use of 2 key for the function
