Checking Media Error

Hello,

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 15R, which I bought 5 months ago from Best Buy. Yesterday I shut down the computer normally, but when I try to restarted, after Dell logo appeared, on a black screen appeared the message: "Check media..". After a few seconds, on a black screen a new message was shown: "No boot device found. Press any key to reboot the machine".

I've looked on the internet and I saw it's a common error and everybody solved it with "Windows Boot Manager" as a first choice in UEFI Boot List Option. My problem is that I don't have this option. I have only two options:
1. UEFI Onboard LAN IPv4
2. UEFI Onboard LAN IPv6

I press F9 to setup the defaults, I changed to Legacy mode, but no results.

Can anybody help with a solution for this problem? My BIOS Version is AO( or 0 )7

When I bought the laptop they told me that I don't need a windows cd, because I already have the kit system on my HDD.

Thanks in advance,
Blue

Hello and welcome to eightforums my fellow Canadian , checking media means it cant find the hard drive ,when they told you didn't need a dvd ,you should have asked what happens when you hard drive dies ,and it may have , try removing the battery and power cord ,hold the power button in for about 1 in ,then plug the 2 items back in and try booting laptop .good luck

Hy,

Thanks for response. When I bought the laptop and I saw they don't provide any windows device ( cd, dvd, usb ), I asked them about that and they told me the laptop has the system incorporated on the HDD and I can reinstall windows from there.

Regarding your solution I removed the power cable, the battery and I kept pressed the power button for about 1 minute, but it didn't solved the problem. Tomorrow I will take back to the store so I will try to fix with the warranty.

very good idea ,but it is also a good idea to create recovery dvd or recovery usb thumbdrive . [ask them about that also .]
to have in case you have to change the harddrive ,this usually done by the new owner when they first setup the laptop, or by the store before it giving to the customer ,store usually has and extra charge for doing it . and some charge to much so buyers don't get it done and don't create there own ,that why we see so many people on this forum who don't have recovery dvd !!
