I recently returned to town and did many updates to 8.1.

After that my mouse works fine. I tried 1 wired and 2 wireless keyboards that work fine on another computer.

Earlier but after teh updates, when I logged in the keyboards worked fine, but had the following problem. Now the problem also occurs when I log in.

When I try to type into the password edit box of login, the search edit box of windows, Word, or the edit box of Google, I need to hit and hold a key before I have a letter showing. I hear two clicks.

I have started a full scan with Windows Defender. It will take a few hours.

The FIX IT for keyboards from MS says it is not for my computer.

Keyboard works for log in after restart. Still need to hold key until it repeats for search, Word, Google, etc and for login after sleep.

You could try the old standby support trick. Boot into safe mode, delete device from Device Manager. Reboot into normal mode. Windows will reinstall the driver. It seems to work at least half the time. It's worth a try.
